GRADUATE PROGRAMS 39Regulations—Right to Dismiss Students, may petition the Academic Scholarship Committeefor reinstatement in accordance with the petition guidelines available from theDean of Students Office.<strong>The</strong> review of any such petition may include, among others, the following considerationsin appropriate cases:1. whether the excluded student has the capacity to pursue the study of law with adefinite likelihood of success;2. whether the excluded student demonstrates the requisite character and fitness toearn the endorsement of the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong> in the application process for admissionto a state bar for a license to practice law;3. whether the conditions leading to the exclusion from study have abated or comeunder sufficient control to allow complete and constructive engagement in thestudy of law and with members of the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong> and <strong>University</strong> community;4. whether the excluded student has met the conditions stipulated in the decision ofthe relevant committee or authority, whether <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong>, <strong>University</strong>, or otherrelevant authority; and5. whether the student can persuasively demonstrate that he or she will comply withthe highest standards of academic integrity during future work at the law school.<strong>The</strong> Academic Scholarship Committee may place academic or other conditions on astudent’s reinstatement. For example, the Committee may require that the student takespecific courses; maintain a specified grade point average; enroll in limited number oftotal credits; limit outside employment; have in place adequate health or tuition insurance;or submit evidence of ongoing appropriate medical treatment. Reinstatement isrequired after a leave of absence for medical or mental health care subject to the proceduresprovided by the Dean of Students Office.Continuous EnrollmentDegree candidates are expected to maintain continuous enrollment until all degree requirementsare satisfied. By failing to register for one semester or more, the student isdropped from the <strong>University</strong>’s rolls and must be readmitted (see Readmission below). Astudent who has been granted a leave of absence must maintain continuous enrollmentby paying the <strong>University</strong> registration fee and having the appropriate status noted at thetime of registration.<strong>The</strong> Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) DegreePrograms leading to the degree of Doctor of Juridical Science offer a very small numberof unusually talented students, who have already earned the Master of <strong>Law</strong>s degree, theopportunity to concentrate on research and writing in a specific area of interest.Entrance RequirementsU.S. <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong> GraduatesFor S.J.D. applicants who earned their first law degree from a U.S. law school, the followingrequirements pertain. Applicants must hold a B.A. or equivalent degree from aregionally accredited college or university and a J.D. and an LL.M. or equivalent degrees,both earned with excellent records, from law schools that are members of theAALS or approved by the ABA. (<strong>The</strong> requirement for an LL.M. may be waived in excep-
