Internationalstudents may waive this requirement by providing proof of existing coverage. Forinformation on group health insurance options offered through the <strong>University</strong>, seegwired.gwu.edu/shs.Immunization RequirementsIt is the law in the District of Columbia that all students under the age of 26 have a recordon file with the Student Health Service documenting immunity to measles, mumps, andrubella (two immunizations with the initial dose given after the first birthday or positivetiters), varicella (chickenpox—by immunization, documented history of disease orpositive titers), hepatitis B series, meningococcal vaccine (or meningitis waiver), and acurrent tetanus/diphtheria booster (within 10 years prior to the beginning of thesemester). This requirement applies to all students regardless of their program of studyor degree status. Students registering for the first time will be able to do so withoutcomplete records on file, but any subsequent registration will be blocked if thisrequirement has not been fulfilled. Immunization forms are sent out by the GWadmitting office. Forms can be downloaded from gwired.gwu/edu/shs. <strong>The</strong> StudentHealth Service can give all inoculations on a fee for service basis. Further information isavailable at gwired.gwu.edu/shs.Disability Support ServicesDisability Support Services provides and coordinates support services for students with awide variety of disabilities, as well as those temporarily disabled by injury or illness. Accommodationsare available through DSS to facilitate academic access for students withdisabilities. Services provided without charge to the student may include orientation tocampus, registration assistance, readers, interpreters, scribes, learning disabilities advising,adaptive materials and equipment, assistance with note taking, laboratory assistance, testaccommodations, regular advising, and referrals. DSS does not provide content tutoring,although it is available on a fee basis from other campus resources. <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> does notprovide or pay for transportation services or personal attendant care. Additional informationis available at www.gwu.edu/~dss.Counseling Services<strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> Counseling Center offers a broad range of services to help students withpersonal issues. Services include short-term individual therapy, group therapy, crisisservices, academic skill enhancement, and psycho-educational workshops. All counselingservices are confidential, and are not part of the student’s academic record. <strong>The</strong> Center alsoprovides telephone assessment and consultations, and referral assistance. <strong>The</strong> initialassessment is free. Center counselors are available during business hours to answer studentquestions about services and campus resources, and for faculty to consult about students ofconcern or other issues. Counselors are available after hours for urgent consultations.
