General InformationDay and Evening ClassesMost day classes are scheduled between 8:50 a.m. and 5:50 p.m., Monday through Friday.<strong>The</strong> majority of evening classes meet from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.<strong>The</strong>re may be an occasional Saturday course offering.A 4-credit course, e.g., Evidence, meets two evenings a week; most 3-credit courses,e.g., Administrative <strong>Law</strong>, meet one evening a week plus alternate Friday eveningsthroughout the semester; a 2-credit course, e.g., Estate Planning, meets one evening aweek. <strong>The</strong> part-time (evening) program conforms to the academic standards of the dayprogram, with full-time faculty teaching all courses in the required and core curriculum.Examinations for both day and evening classes may be given in the afternoon. Examinationsfor day students may be given in the evening.RegistrationEach student must register before attending classes. No student will be registered untilproper credentials have been filed (see Admission).No registration is accepted for less than a semester or summer session. A student maynot register concurrently in <strong>George</strong> <strong>Washington</strong> <strong>University</strong> and another institution. Registrationin more than one school of the <strong>University</strong> requires the written permission of theappropriate deans concerned, prior to registration.Eligibility for RegistrationA student who is suspended or whose record is not clear for any reason is not eligible toregister.New Student—Upon receipt of a final letter of admission a new student is eligible forregistration on the stated days of registration.Readmitted Student—A student previously registered who was not registered for coursesduring the preceding semester or summer session and who has not been granted aleave of absence must apply for and receive a letter of readmission before becoming eligiblefor registration.Graduation RequirementsDegrees are conferred in January, May, and August.To be recommended by the faculty for graduation, a student must have met the admissionrequirements of the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong>; completed satisfactorily the scholarship, curriculum,enrollment, and other requirements for the degree for which the student is registered;and be free from all indebtedness to the <strong>University</strong>. Registration is required forthe semester or summer session at the close of which the degree is to be conferred.Application for Graduation—An application for graduation must be filed by the dateindicated in the Academic Calendar during the last semester or summer session of thefinal year. Students completing degree requirements during the summer session and fallsemester will be awarded diplomas (no formal convocation) on August 31 and January31, respectively, provided they have completed all degree requirements and have appliedfor graduation as part of registration. If they wish, such students may participate in theMay Commencement.59
