The participants alsohighlighted the need to support the role of community radios in recoveringhistorical memory and to show some aspects on how history has been told.Promote Gender equality and Women’s rightsThe Global evaluation process participants recommended action for genderequality, women rights and to reinforce the AMARC Women Internationalnetwork. This includes the need to go to the individual community radio stationand find out who are the participants in the radio? How can the number ofwomen participants be improved? How can women be more empowered throughthe community radio? Also what are the needs in terms of training, in terms ofdecision-making? Training for women does not only mean by making the radios.But also how do you lobby within the radio station to get women in decisionmakingpositions and not just those who are cooking tea and coffee. Therefore,it’s very important to review the situation of women community radio and get fullpotential of women at community radio stations.Promote Women’s rights. Amplify women’s voices and promote women rights inorder to combat gender based discrimination. Ensure participation and advocacyon media and gender meetings on the UN and other events.Promoting Gender equality Promoting gender equity both in management andgovernance and programme production in community radio at all levels.AMARC Community Radio Social Impact Assessment 2007 Page 91 of 128
