ASUM NZ Branch Annual ConferenceThe 2005 ASUM NZ Branch AnnualConference was the second held asa comb<strong>in</strong>ed conference with the NZBranch of the RANZCR. This seemsto be a successful comb<strong>in</strong>ation. Thenext comb<strong>in</strong>ed meet<strong>in</strong>g is planned<strong>for</strong> 2007.The Conference was held at theMichael Fowler Centre, <strong>in</strong> the heart ofWell<strong>in</strong>gton. Dr David Gallaugh, whospecialises <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>tensive care, openedthe Conference, which, with close to300 registrants, was a well-attendedevent.The Organis<strong>in</strong>g Committee– Stephen Busby, Luke Newnham,Craig McQuillan and Paul Kendrick,all from the Nelson region, put togetheran excit<strong>in</strong>g scientific program thatcatered <strong>for</strong> RANZCR, ASUM andRANZCR Radiation Oncology.The Saturday night conferenced<strong>in</strong>ner, held at the Te Papa Museum,was a very successful social occasion.The night passed far too quickly, withmost gett<strong>in</strong>g up, at some po<strong>in</strong>t, toenjoy the danc<strong>in</strong>g.The theme <strong>for</strong> Conference wasAbdom<strong>in</strong>al Imag<strong>in</strong>g and the <strong>in</strong>vitedspeakers were chosen to reflect this.The Conference was well supportedby ultrasound equipment and servicessuppliers, it seems that the comb<strong>in</strong>edmeet<strong>in</strong>gs are a great way <strong>for</strong> suppliersto showcase their products. Ourspecial thanks go to Philips and GE,both Plat<strong>in</strong>um sponsors. The Silversponsors were Bard, Siemens and theNZ RANZCR Education Trust. TheBronze sponsors were Fujifilm andObex, with the Medical Assurance<strong>Society</strong>, Toshiba, Novartis Oncology,Fisher and Paykel Healthcare andAstraZeneca Oncology also provid<strong>in</strong>gsupport sponsorship.GE supported Prof Stephen Bakerfrom New Jersey, USA.
