They can be usedto measure rotational, linear and 3D displacement as wellas sense current flowing in a wire. The Triaxis ® sensorsmeasure the properties of a magnetic field using the Halleffect and innovative, patented, flux concentrators, known as“Integrated Magnetic Concentrators” or IMC.Depositing a patented magnetic film to the surface of thesensor IC and applying a specific mathematical formulato the resulting signals, a single sensor can measure 3components (x,y and z) of the applied magnetic flux density.Conventional Hall sensors are only sensitive to flux in 1 axis,through the sensor.Strengths of Triaxis ®Triaxis ® sensors are small, capable of high temperatureoperation and can include sophisticated bus and interfaceelectronics directly on chip. The magnetic coupling of thesignal means no physical contact and no wear items forvirtually infinite life. Also it means they are impervious to dirt,dust, moisture, grease and oil, making them ideal for harshenvironments in cars, trucks, farm equipment and industrialuses. Melexis’ patented Triaxis ® scheme tolerates magnetmisalignment, further simplifying the design challenges ofour customers. Being fully programmable, our customershave the freedom to use practically any (inexpensive) magnetthey prefer and can make many different sensors from onemechanical design simply by software changes.
