It should be stressed,that it was only as late as the Censuses from 1900, 1910 and 1921 that a family name wasaccompanied by the number of which particular volume and entry number we shouldconsult: earlier the district name and a house number where a person lived were given.The oldest Census kept in the State Archive in Krakow can be found in the files of theCivil-and-Military Order Commission (Komisja Porządkowa Cywilno-Wojskowa) of theKrakow Province and comes from the years 1790–1792. Its territorial range stretchedover the then Krakow Voievodship. The Census was made according to parishes: thesewere the parishes of the city of Krakow and the counties of Krakow, Książ, Lelów,Proszowice. Contained is also a census of the Jewish population.47
