PohronskáMembers UPSS: T. Krajčovič, M. Babiš, M. Ďuríček, V. Harvanová, M. VojtkoSupported by: Tatrabanka GrantDuration: January 2011 – December 2011Description: The Forest Guardian project is focused on solving the problem of illegaltimber lodging, by developing an embedded system aimed to detectthe lodging activities in real time. The main concept of the systemis utilization of sensors capable of sensing and recognizing the typicalsounds of lodging activities. The intelligent sensor network is placedright in the forest area, with battery powered sensors mounted totreetops. The central node of the network is connected to the Internetand the system storage server. The status of lodging activities detectedand technical data on the network are stored in regular intervals andcan be displayed on the map through a developed web application.Roaming in convergent communication networks (2010et015)Project leader: P. MagulaMembers UPSS: I. Kotuliak, T. Kováčik, J. Balažia, R. Broniš, M. Pisarovič,M. SomorovskýSupported by: Tatrabanka GrantDuration: January 2011 – December 2011Description: The goal of the project was to design and implement a real-worldcommunication network based on the IP Multimedia Subsytem technologywith an access network based on the mobile technology 802.11and to measure selected qualitative parameters of its multimedial operation. We aimed to design an innovative mechanism for minimizingthe latency introduced to the communication in the process of changingbetween 802.11 mobile access points. Apart from innovative researchcontributions of the project, its outcomes serve as a basementfor teaching in courses “Wireless communication systems”, “Convergenceof mobile and wired networks” and “NGN networks, servicesand protocols”. The project thus helps both in processes of developmentof actual communication technologies and teaching of their operation. As VoIP and IMS are currently the only alternatives ofmodern communication technologies, the project significantly contributesto preparing students for deploying and solving the real problemsof the perspective communication technologies.
