Studies on Scandinavian Bumble Bees 115longer than Aa+ a. Clypeus with rather even,dense distribution of coarse and fine puncturesexcept a small, almost impunctate atea betweenwide, well-defined impressions. Ocelli usually dorsallytouching supra-orbital line. A, at least lyztimes longer than distal width, and about %the length of Aa+ s. ,A.4 about as long as distalwidth, slightly shorter than Au. Outer surfaceof hind tibia alutaceous; distal inner dorsal processof hind tibia moderately produced (Fig. 9A).Length of hind basitarsus about zyz times thegreatest width of the segment (Fig. 9B). T** usmooth or inconspicuously alutaceous, withrather sparse puncturing. Body robust, coat longanC somewhat shaggy.Queen measurements: N : 201' SouthernNorway; malar space: l.l4 mm (+O.O:+0.01)range: 1.05-I.20 mm ; 'radial length' : 5.53 mm(+0.16+0.04) range: 5.20-5.85 mm; interalarwidth: 6.20 mm (+0.17+0.04) range: 5.75-6.53 mm. Body of larger size than any otherScandinavian Bombus species.Colour pattern Collar, scutellum, Tr-, deeporange to ochrous-yellow. Otherwise coat black.Parallel-sided interalar band not wider than thebroad collar.Variation. Extremely colour-stable. Only minutevariations in the extension of collar, thewidth of interalar band, etc.MaleMorphological characters. Head markedlylonger than wide. Malar space exceeding l%times the distal width, about as long as An* u.A, hardly longer than An i An as long as distalwidth or just longer I Au-', individually straight,nearly twice as long as distal width. Outer surfaceof hind tibia scarcely alutaceous. Hindbasitarsus about 3yz times longer than distalwidth. St, and genitalia (Figs. 27A-B); insideof volsella, seen from beneath, strongly projectinginwards; subapical tooth of penis valve absentor much reduced. Body of large size.Colour pattern Pile of vertex predominantlyorange to ochrous-yellow; otherwise colouringas in the female.Variation. As in the female.Distribution (Fig. 71)Norway. Scattered occurrence in SouthernNorway restricted to pafi of the mountainousmassive ranging from Jotunheimen to the northernfringe of Dovrefiell and in Northern Norwayto oislets' north of Polar Circle. Scarce.In Southern Norway once recorded 400 m s.m.,otherwise occurring 900-1300 m. s.m.Apparently conflned to limestone biotopes.A total of 72 specimens, i.e. 44 ??
