Now it’s time to get serious ladies,because the 2010-2011 season is about tobegin! Many of our snowbirds will be flyingback this month and we need to revup for the events ahead.On Thursday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to1 p.m. we will be participating in the OnTop of the World Club Fair in the Health& Recreation Ballroom. It is at this timethat we would love to see new faces interestedin joining our ranks. We are a fungroup of ladies who do take their gameseriously, but don’t let it get in the wayof making new friends and learning thefine game of golf. Please stop by our tableat this event, or better yet call our president,Jeanette Messer, or any of our otherofficers.If you get a chance, stop by the clubroom,which is located behind the proshop, look over our member board ofpostings and make that phone call. Beginning Aug. 10 a contractorwas scheduled to resurface and convertHealth & Recreation tennis courts threeand four into six first-class Pickleballcourts.We already have an active group ofmen and women who enjoy the sport herein our community. With these new courts,we hope many more will join us. Comesee these courts and watch a game, youwill see how much fun it is.Pickleball is the fastest growing seniorsport and the new favorite among vibrantseniors because it provides: a good cardioworkout, offering more exercise than golfor bocce; camaraderie of friendly players,who play in an open format; a sport mucheasier to learn and requiring less initialskill than others such as tennis; a smallercourt size that more readily accommodatesthose with joint replacement orother issues, if you can run three stepsyou can play; and minimal cost to learn –lessons are free and equipment needed isfurnished, only sport shoes and a bottleof water are required.Pickleball is a relatively safe sport,similar to other court sports. (The onlyinjuries in past two years have requiredno more than a band-aid).We currently play several morningsand 6 p.m. on Sundays. Presently we haveno set schedule for beginner lessons, butencourage new players to join us at anytime.
