HiseyFlorida-Friendly Landscaping has beena big part of On Top of the World Communitiesfor a long time now. Did I saybig? I meant huge.Since 2005, On Top of the World hasbeen exclusively part of the Florida Yardsand Neighborhoods, Florida-FriendlyLandscaping program; in fact, we haveinstalled over 1,000 homes that are certifiedas Florida-Friendly Landscapes.Kathleen Patterson, the program coordinator, mentioned to me that in her talkswith colleagues from UF/IFAS, On Topof the World Communities, Inc., is quitepossibly the largest developer in the statethat landscapes to these standards. Notonly do we practice these concepts in theresidential areas, we also extend this intothe commercial landscape areas too.In 2008, On Top of the World Communities,Inc., was awarded the Florida-Friendly Community Award. There is a huge amount of effort thatgoes into creating Florida-Friendly Landscapesand I encourage you to go to theFYN/FFL website http://fyn.ifas.ufl.edu/to learn more about the concept. In an effort to let residents know tocheck their lawns because we are seeingchinch bugs in the community, we senta recent e-mail blast with informationabout the pest and ways to control it. Ifthere is anything you take away from thismessage, it is to alternate the pesticideclass when treating chinch bugs, don’tjust switch the pesticide. There are three commonly used chemicalclasses in the pest control world:Organophosphates, Carbamates and Pyrethrins.Chinch bugs have developed resistanceto all of these chemical classesand that is why it is important to alternateat each application. We will continue to inform residents ofour findings and Best Management Practices.HospitalityLinda TiffanyBack Pain?
