Thanks toall donors! The HappyHookersCarole ToyeI can’t believe it’s September already;where did the year go? Our ladies arevery busy with many projects. Linda Lohris making beautiful and unusual greetingcards; Carol Berta is busy making Christmasornaments; and Carol Lopez is tryingto finish a latch hook rug she inheritedfrom someone. Does anyone rememberwhen we used to be called the Rug andLatch Hook group?Tomoko Albert is working on a needlepointproject of a traditional Japanesewoman, very pretty. Tomoko also uneartheda knitting project she had packedaway when she moved here. The patternis very different and pretty, but now theproblem is to find the directions so shecan finish it. If she can’t, we have severalgood knitters who will be able to helpher.Jackie Nolte finished an intricatelyknitted mint green baby blanket. Jackiealways makes blankets with different patterns;she says she gets tired of makingthe same pattern all the time. Ruth Rasmussenbrings this very detailed needlepointto work on. How she manages tonot make a mistake with all the talkingthat goes on is unbelievable. On Thursday, Sept. 17, there will bethe Club Fair at the Health & RecreationBuilding and we will have a table displayingour work, stop by and check us out.Tip: Working on an afghan in the summermonths can make your legs warmso put the afghan in an old pillowcase, keeps it clean and your legs don’t get aswarm. This hint is compliments of RosalieGrubowski. Sounds like a great idea tome.Oct. 5 will be our next luncheon butwe haven’t made a decision yet where itwill be. Although our numbers are less,we are having fun and leaving each meetingwith a new bit of knowledge.Marie Johnson was our project directorfor this month. What more appropriatefor a “Mainer” than a card stampedwith a Maine lighthouse? The lighthousewas colored with our choice of medium, trim, layered and attached to a card front. We could then choose any sentiment forthe intended occasion. Our second card was a double pocketcreation made from an 8-1/2” x 11” pieceof double-sided paper. It is amazing whatcan be done with a few folds. This canbe used for any occasion. Marie chose tomake it a birthday card using balloons asan embellishment. Each month, a list of supplies neededfor the meeting is furnished by the persondoing that month’s project prior tothe meeting.Come by and visit us at the Club Fair inthe Health & Recreation Ballroom on Sept.17.
