Financial Aid PoliciesStudents are encouraged to visit the Financial Planning Office website atwww.mercer.edu/finaid/rac to learn more about financial aid policies and to e-mail their Financial Planning Counselor with any questions related to financialaid.• An applicant for financial assistance must be a U.S. citizen or eligiblenon-citizen.• An applicant for financial assistance must be fully admitted as an eligibledegree-seeking student to the <strong>University</strong> before financial assistance canbe disbursed. Provisionally accepted students are not eligible for financialaid disbursements.• In most instances, financial assistance is granted only to students whotake a course load of at least six semester hours per term, although assistancefrom the Pell Grant may be available to those enrolled in less thansix hours.• Students receiving financial assistance from sources other than <strong>Mercer</strong><strong>University</strong> are required to advise the Office of Financial Planning of thisfact. A written statement that identifies the sponsor(s) and the amount ofthe award(s) is required. Some adjustment of the original financial aidaward may be necessary.• Financial aid awards will be automatically credited to qualified students’accounts at the beginning of each semester, provided that all necessarypaperwork is complete, with the exception of student work awards. Workawards are paid directly to students after the funds have been earnedand it is the student’s responsibility to apply these funds to any balancethat might be due to <strong>Mercer</strong>.• Students must be officially enrolled and attending class at the end of thesemester’s drop-add period in order to receive financial aid for a class.Since financial aid is based on enrollment, enrollment changes mayaffect student financial aid award(s).• Students who fail to earn a passing grade in all of their classes for asemester may be considered, for financial aid purposes, to have unofficiallywithdrawn from the <strong>University</strong>. If the institution can not documentthat the student completed at least one class during the semester, federaland state financial aid funds will be returned to the original sourceof funds in accordance with the Federal Return Policy.• No financial aid will be disbursed while a student is in verification.Verification is the process in which the Federal Government requiresschools to verify the accuracy of information reported by students on theFAFSA. Some students’ forms will be randomly selected by the federalprocessor for verification, while other forms will be selected through specificedits. If your forms are selected for verification, you will be notifiedby the Financial Planning Office and asked to furnish supporting documentation.42 / MERCER UNIVERSITY
