Students may appeal decisions made regarding satisfactory academicprogress by writing to the Financial Planning Review Committee, c/o theFinancial Planning Office. This committee, which is comprised of Financial Aidrepresentatives, will review all such appeals and notify students of their decisions.Decisions made by this committee are final and may not be appealed further,according to federal law.Federal and State GrantsFederal Pell Grant: Undergraduate students seeking their first bachelor’sdegrees may qualify for this need-based federal grant. Eligibility for and dollarvalue of the Pell Grant is determined on the basis of a student’s financialresources and the resources of his or her family, as reported on the FAFSA,along with the cost of education at the institution and the student’s enrollmentstatus. Completion of the FAFSA serves as an application for the Pell Grant. Themaximum Pell Grant for the <strong>2006</strong>-<strong>2007</strong> academic year is expected to be$4,050.Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant: The State of Georgia has made available,to qualified Georgia residents, an annual tuition grant for attendance atapproved private colleges in the state. To be eligible for this grant, a student(and parents of dependent students) must be a United States citizen who hasresided in the State of Georgia for at least one full year prior to the date of registrationfor any particular semester. The student must be enrolled and attendingat least 12 credit-hours of undergraduate coursework for 14 days after thedrop-add period of Session II.To be considered for the grant, a student must complete a Georgia TuitionEqualization Grant Application at the beginning of his/her first term of enrollmentas a full-time student and meet all the eligibility requirements. Students can onlyreceive this grant for 127 semester hours. Applications are available from the<strong>Regional</strong> Academic Center Financial Planning Office or can be completed atwww.gacollege411.org.The dollar value of the grant varies by term, depending onthe funds appropriated by the state legislature. The grant is expected to be $500per semester for the <strong>2006</strong>-<strong>2007</strong> academic year.HOPE Scholarship: High school graduates, from 1996 and later, who aredesignated HOPE Scholars, AND students with a cumulative 3.0 GPA at theend of a term in which they attempted (not earned) 30, 60, or 90 semesterhours, may be eligible to receive a HOPE Scholarship if they meet the state’seligibility criteria. To maintain HOPE Scholarship eligibility, students must havea cumulative 3.0 HOPE GPA at the end of each spring semester and at theirattempted hour checkpoints. Please note that courses attempted at <strong>Mercer</strong> andall other postsecondary institutions are included in the GPA and hours attemptedcalculations. Also, only whole letter grades are used in the GPA calculation(e.g. a B+ is counted as a B).The maximum number of credits covered by the HOPE Scholarship is 127attempted hours or 127 paid hours of combined HOPE Scholarship, HOPEGrant, and/or HOPE Accel. To be eligible, full-time students must be enrolledand attending at least 12 credit-hours of undergraduate coursework for 14 daysafter the drop-add period of Session II. Part-time students must be enrolled andattending at least 6 credit-hours of undergraduate coursework for 14 days afterthe drop-add period of Session II. The maximum annual award for the <strong>2006</strong>-44 / MERCER UNIVERSITY
