5 Summary
The consolidation pressure among the traditional bank institutes in
the Bavarian financial market will not lessen in the future. The number
of regionally active bank institutes will further decrease. At the
same time, the distribution channels outside of the traditional branch
business will gain importance. Enterprises from outside the industry
will enter the banking market to do business. The internationalisation
of the economy results in changes of what is required from the
banks. Customers will be more price-conscious and therefore more
motivated to change to another bank. The continuity of customer
relationships will decrease. Furthermore, inequalities and desires to
be different will increase in society and so will the individual needs
and requirements of the customers versus their bank. The demographic
development especially in rural areas calls for changes of
products and customer contacts on the part of the banks. Young people
will move into the centre of attention of financial service
providers. That will result in a growing number of suppliers fighting
for a dwindling group of customers.
