GMR (2)1 – Supervision ofMachineryWhat is the purpose of this course?To ensure that learners correctly understand the legal and moral obligations of the employer in respect to thesafe use of plant and machinery. A further purpose is to explain what needs to be done in practice to ensure theaforementioned.Course OutcomesThe following aspects will be addressed in this course:• What the law consists of in respect of occupationalhealth and safety;• How to read legislation in general but specificallyin respect of the OHS Act;• Terminology and legal liabilities in respect ofoccupational health and safety;• The reasons for appointing a competent person tooversee the use of machinery;• What determines competency in respect of thisparticular appointment;• The appointment of assistants to assist thesupervisor of machinery;• Duties of manufacturers, designers, erectors andinstallers;• The necessity for and the role of the competentperson in respect of:o Risk assessments;o Audits;o Safe operating procedures;o Permit systems;o Lock-outs, etc.• The legal requirements and practical approach tothe General Machinery Regulations;• Process to be followed during the appointment ofa competent person;• Relationship between different role players inoccupational health and safety.Course FormatDuration5 Hours.EnvironmentClassroom training conducted at the client’s venue (In-house) or as a public course.Please note that a minimum of 10 delegates is required to run an in-house course.Learning material (supplied by <strong>LexisNexis</strong>)Student manual;OHS Act and Regulations;All course material is provided in English.
