Carry out scientific and technological studies, basic surveys in fields of petroleum exploration, production,transportation, storage, distribution, processing, safety, environment, economics and management;2. Produce, trade, directly export and import technologies and products in the above fields;3. Formulate, consult, and appraise petroleum investment and construction projects;4. Formulate, appraise, and consult economic-technology reports; conduct assessments on safety andenvironment issues of petroleum projects and construction works;5. Inspect and verify quality of laboratory equipment and apparatus, petroleum products, certify chemicals,apparatus and equipment;6. Advise to construct, inspect and verify to certify quality management systems;7. Provide information and data for research and business activities of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group;Consult on science and technology application; Provide professional training for the above fields;8. Organize oil and gas conferences, seminars, exhibitions, advertisements, and museum.Viện Dầu khí Việt Nam (VPI) là một đơn vị mà kết quả nghiên cứu và dịch vụ khoa học công nghệ của Viện đãgóp phần hoạch định chiến lược, sách lược và các giải pháp phát triển của Tập đoàn Dầu khí Quốc Gia ViệtNam trong tất cả các khâu, các lĩnh vực hoạt động một cách bền vững và hiệu quả.Viện Dầu khí Việt Nam đang tập trung xây dựng và phát triển để trở thành Học Viện Dầu khí quốc gia – Trungtâm trí tuệ khoa học Dầu khí đồng bộ, hoàn chỉnh, hiện đại, từng bước đạt trình độ khu vực và thế giới, đápứng mọi yêu cầu trước mắt và lâu dài của công nghiệp Dầu khí Việt Nam. Các hoạt động của Viện gồm:1. Nghiên cứu khoa học và phát triển công nghệ, điều tra cơ bản trong lĩnh vực dầu khí: tìm kiếm thăm dò,khai thác, vận chuyển, tàng trữ, phân phối, chế biến, an toàn, môi trường, kinh tế và quản lý dầu khí;2. Sản xuất, kinh doanh hàng hóa, xuất nhập khẩu trực tiếp công nghệ và sản phẩm trong các lĩnh vựcnghiên cứu nêu trên;3. Lập, tư vấn lập, thẩm định các đề án đầu tư, các dự án và công trình dầu khí;4. Lập, thẩm định và tư vấn thẩm định các báo cáo kinh tế kỹ thuật, các vấn đề về an toàn và môi trường cácdự án và công trình dầu khí;5. Giám định các máy móc, thiết bị phân tích thí nghiệm, kiểm định các sản phẩm dầu khí, cấp chứng chỉ cácchất, vật tư, thiết bị;6. Tư vấn thiết kế xây dựng, giám định cấp chứng chỉ các công trình dầu khí và cấp chứng chỉ hệ thốngquản lý chất lượng (theo quy định của Nhà nước);7. Đảm bảo thông tin, dữ liệu phục vụ nghiên cứu và sản xuất kinh doanh; tư vấn về ứng dụng khoa học vàcông nghệ; đào tạo nghiệp vụ chuyên môn trong các lĩnh vực nghiên cứu nên trên;8. Tổ chức hội nghị, hội thảo, triển lãm, bảo tàng và quảng cáo về ngành dầu khí.
