nobina SwedenSwedenSTRONG MARKETPOSITIONSales for the 2012/2013 financial year declined by 2 percent to SEK 4,808(4,905) million. Operating profit increased by approximately 3 percent to SEK303 (295) million, primarily because of improved operational results fromefficiency enhancement measures in the operations. Despite a relatively harshwinter, our efforts to reduce damage and maintenance costs continue to payoff. Fuel consumption also fell during the last financial year.WE DO A LOT OFTHINGS RIGHT”The 2012/2013 financial year was a good one forNobina Sweden. Our delivery of services tocustomers and PTAs was good, as was our profittrend. We have a very strong market position, primarily because of our committed, responsibleemployees. It is also great that the focus in our industrycontinues to shift such that more contracts containincentives. The traffic contract for Helsinki, which will start up during the 2013/2014 financialyear is just one example, with a larger variableportion in the revenue model. For us, much focus during the year was on thestart-up of services in three regions and continuedefforts on the launch of the new BRT concept2014, which has also been referred to asSuper Bus. This is a cost-efficient public transportsolution with special bus lanes that givebuses the right of way. The buses used in this typeof solution are also longer and they allow passengersto embark and disembark from all doors. The overall aim is a more rapid flow in traffic. We designed the concept in collaboration withSkånetrafiken and the City of Malmö. It’s aflagship project for us, and it’s also the first BRTtype of system to be used in the Nordic region. We’ve done a lot of things right. At the sametime, we realize that benefits can still be derivedfrom correcting any existing deficiencies. Besidesour efforts to continually improve, we are stillworking together with industry representativesto inform and educate PTAs about the newindustry agreements and encourage their use.We are also taking new initiatives to increase theuse of public transport and provide greater benefitsto society.”Jan Bosaeus, MD Nobina SwedenOPERATIONSSUCCESSFUL START-UPSDuring the 2012/2013 financial year, Nobina Sweden participated in publictransport tenders corresponding to 853 buses, approximately 80 of which wewon. None of our existing contracts were put out to tender again during thelast year. We started up traffic services in Uppland, West Sweden and Skåneand all of these contracts include incentives. In Stockholm, we started upDjurgårdsbussen. It is a commercial route with daily departures betweenStockholm City and Djurgården. In total, we started up services with 118 busesand discontinued services with 113 buses. In Uppland, customers are very positive towards our double-decker bus concept, which has made a positive impact on our image and reputation. The scopeof the contract is 136 new buses, which, no later than 2020 will all run on renewablefuel. Västtrafik is another large PTA and on its behalf, we started up againin Göta Älvdalen with 27 buses and another 46 buses in Vänersborg andTrollhättan. Here, as well, we are gradually renewing the fleet with buses thatrun on environmentally friendly fuels such as biogas and RME. Nobina is alsoresponsible for the local marketing and schedule production, which is fully inline with our desire to take on responsibilities beyond actual operations. InSkåne, we started up traffic services in Svalöv with 13 buses and in Ekeby with17 buses. Our contract was also renewed in Lund (East) with 34 buses. In terms of product development, we launched a service concept during theyear that involves information technology in buses. It’s a modular IT productconcept that offers customers additional services on buses such as internetonboard, infotainment, passenger counting and CCTV. More information isavailable on page 23.Work continued on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) inspired concept, alsoreferred to as Super Bus, during the year. We expect to launch it sometime in2014. Furthermore, Nobina and Skånetrafiken reached a consensus to, at thesame time, introduce travel incentives into the current contract. You can readmore about that project on page 19.We are very happy with the progress of Norrtäljetrafiken, where, for theStockholm route, Nobina is paid per embarking passenger. Customer satisfactionincreased during the year and the number of passengers riding the doubledeckerson the Norrtälje–Stockholm route was 5,015,000. In order to increase26
