Nobina finlandCONTRACT TERMS THE FINNISH MARKET LAGS BEHIND OTHER NORDICCOUNTRIES WHEN IT COMES TO THE TRANSITION TO INCENTIVE BASEDCONTRACTS. THE FIVE PLAYERS ON THE MARKET ALSO COMPETE IN APRICE ENVIRONMENT THAT REQUIRES A VERY HIGH LEVEL OF EFFICIENCY.HOWEVER, WE ANTICIPATE THAT THE PRICE SITUATION WILL GRADUALLYIMPROVE.ENVIRONMENTEFFORTS TO LOWER EMISSIONSNobina Finland actively strives to reduce its emissions. We are continuallyadding more eco-buses to existing contracts, e.g. busesthat run on biodiesel. Since 2012, The Green Journey has also beenan important component of our efforts to reduce fuel consumption, primarily through conservative driving practices. Equipmenthas been installed in 146 of our buses for measuring the effects ofdriving and enabling continual follow-up between drivers andmanagers.During the last financial year, the PTA, Helsingfors RegionensTrafik (HRT) held an environmental bonus competition and entitiesthat were able to lower their emissions could earn up to EUR630,000. We won EUR 360,000 of that sum thanks to innovativesolutions like the use of biodiesel and environmental upgrades incontracts that will soon apply.Nobina Finland also works systematically with recycling, particularlyat the Klovi depot.FUTURE FOCUSPROFITABLE CONTRACTSThe 2013/2014 financial year will be a very interesting one forNobina Finland. We will have the option of participating in severaltenderings in Helsinki and we are particularly looking forward toopportunities for expansion outside the capital region. In everycontract, regardless of whether it is existing or new, profitability isthe main focus. We will also have a variety of activities that focuson employee satisfaction and commitment, which will becomeincreasingly important as competitiveness intensifies. Furthermore,we will be conducting a customer survey and continue working toensure that they are satisfied.Since 2012, Nobina has been a member of the Finnish bus association. We feel that there will be good opportunities for encouragingPTAs to improve the contract terms in future tenderings. Theassociation has one person who works specifically on improvingthe conditions in tenderings.MARKETOPENING UP TO COMPETITIONBus services corresponding to 295 buses were opened up to competitionin the Helsinki area during the last financial year. NobinaFinland won tenders corresponding to 102 buses and contracts correspondingto 118 buses expired. At the beginning of the financialyear, we also reached an agreement with one PTA on extra services. We lost business corresponding to 16 buses.Nobina Finland started up services for several contracts duringthe financial year. One was the takeover of some of Westendin-Linjat’s operations when this competitor went bankrupt. The market outside Helsinki is slowly starting to open up andgrowth will increase already during 2013/2014. In total, the Finnishmarket for public transport by bus is worth approximately SEK 6.5billion and is expected to grow by 15 % over the next few years.40
