<strong>Head</strong> 2 Methodology<br />

2 .1 Steps taken to compile this TOP<br />

To prepare this TOP, the following steps were undertaken:<br />

� Review <strong>of</strong> previous plans prepared for other Queensl<strong>and</strong><br />

regions, most notably Mackay/Whitsundays, Brisbane <strong>and</strong><br />

surrounds <strong>and</strong> the Sunshine Coast;<br />

� Review <strong>of</strong> documents relevant to the regions <strong>and</strong> referred to<br />

in the Bibliography that forms part <strong>of</strong> the Appendices<br />

Document that accompanies this TOP;<br />

� Interviews conducted with some 80+ stakeholders in<br />

regards to the development <strong>of</strong> tourism to the regions: a list<br />

<strong>of</strong> people13 interviewed is at Appendix 5 in the Appendices<br />

Document;<br />

� Field trips undertaken to review product <strong>and</strong> identify new<br />

opportunities, especially in hinterl<strong>and</strong> locations;<br />

� Conducted focus group sessions within the regions; <strong>and</strong><br />

� Tested options, issues <strong>and</strong> opportunities with the Project<br />

Steering Committee established for this TOP.<br />

2 .2 Data sources <strong>and</strong> limitations<br />

Quantitative data was sourced from a range <strong>of</strong> sources. Where<br />

possible, the sources are identified. Some information has been<br />

obtained from confidential sources <strong>and</strong> has not been attributed<br />

to any source provider as a result.<br />

Marketing data for the regions in this TOP is not provided: this<br />

data is not considered core to the Plan. 14<br />

Much <strong>of</strong> the data has not been independently verified: the data<br />

has been accepted in good faith.<br />

Every effort has been made to present a robust <strong>and</strong> complete<br />

picture <strong>of</strong> tourism development to the regions but there are<br />

inherent limitations in data sets <strong>and</strong> at times the sample sizes<br />

used.<br />
