Malawi<strong>UNAIDS</strong> has helped to coordinate UN work on AIDS in Malawi, and has also movedbeyond the UN to help to mobilize, technically support and improve communicationamong all stakeholders in the fight against the pandemic. <strong>The</strong> development partners’cooperativeness as well as the UN’s combination of technical expertise and internationallegitimacy have enabled it to play its role effectively in Malawi. Although there is stillmuch work to be done and progress to be made in this country, Malawi has seen notableimprovements. Today, increased numbers of Malawians have access to HIV preventionservices, AIDS care and treatment; the stigma surrounding HIV has decreased, and therehave been recent developments including institutions, which might help to create a moreequitable society.241
