Assessment & Management <strong>of</strong> <strong>Stage</strong> I <strong>to</strong> <strong>IV</strong> <strong>Pressure</strong> <strong>Ulcers</strong>Process for Update/Review <strong>of</strong> GuidelineThe Registered Nurses’ Association <strong>of</strong> Ontario proposes <strong>to</strong> update the nursing best practiceguidelines as follows:1. Following dissemination, each nursing best practice guideline will be reviewed by a team <strong>of</strong>specialists (Review Team) in the <strong>to</strong>pic area every three years following the last set <strong>of</strong> revisions.2. During the three-year period between development and revision, <strong>RNAO</strong> Nursing Best PracticeGuideline program staff will regularly moni<strong>to</strong>r for new research, systematic reviews andrandomized controlled trials.3. Based on the results <strong>of</strong> the moni<strong>to</strong>r, program staff may recommend an earlier revision period.Appropriate consultation with a team <strong>of</strong> members comprising original panel members and otherspecialists in the field will help inform the decision <strong>to</strong> review and revise the guideline earlier thanthe three-year miles<strong>to</strong>ne.4. Three months prior <strong>to</strong> the three-year review miles<strong>to</strong>ne, guideline program staff will commence theplanning <strong>of</strong> the review process as follows:a. Invite specialists in the field <strong>to</strong> participate in the Review Team. The Review Team will becomprised <strong>of</strong> members from the original panel as well as other recommended specialists.b. Compile feedback received, questions encountered during the dissemination phase as well asother comments and experiences <strong>of</strong> implementation sites.c. Compile new clinical practice guidelines in the field, systematic reviews, meta-analysis papers,technical reviews, randomized controlled trial research and other relevant literature.d. Develop a detailed work plan with target dates for deliverables.The revised guideline will undergo dissemination based on established structures and processes.56
