3 rd Conference on QPE /QPF and Hydrology. World Meteorological Organization, Nanjing, China, Oct.18-‐22,2010. 4.SummaryA new VPR correction was developed to reduce radarQPE errors due to bright band and radar sampling in iceregions. Further, an adjustment procedure was developed toaccount for the orographic precipitation process in themountainous regions. The new VPR correction shemesuccessfully reduced overestimations in bright band area andimproved underestimation in regions with radar sampling inthe ice region. The new radar QPE technique will beimplemented within the NSSL’s National Mosaic and Q2system (Vasiloff et al 2007; Zhang et al. 2009;http://nmq.ou.edu) for evaluation in real time across theContiguous United States.AcknowledgmentsMajor funding for this research was provided underNOAA’s Hydro-Meteorological Testbed (HMT) program andpartial funding was provided under NOAA-University ofOklahoma Cooperative Agreement #NA17RJ1227..ReferencesZhang J. and Qi Y., 2010: A real-time algorithm for thecorrection of bright band effects in radar-derivedQPE.
