When using millimeter wavelength radars, the attenuation caused by cloudand precipitation particles' scattering and absorption together with the water vaporand oxygen absorption at millimeter wavelength must be take into account. In orderfor the actual need of mm wavelengths cloud radar data processing, presuming thatthe cloud particles are sphere particles, by sampling cloud drop size spectra whichfollow the K- M distribution and the rain drop size spectra which follow the Gammadistribution for 1330 times, respectively, and by adopting the Mie scatter theoryformula for computing scattering, absorbing and back-scattering cross-sections, theattenuation coefficient k and radar reflectivity factor Z are calculated for 3.2 and 8.6mm wavelengths and the k-Z relationship has been obtained.2 MethodsThe attenuation of millimeter cloud radar echoesk = k air+ k cloudkaircan be calculated by the atmospheric absorbing Liebe mode(Liebe, 1985), kcloudcan be obtained by the k-Z relationship.By formulasD∫ 0maxk = N(D)Qt(D)dD and Z = ∫βcan be presented as k = αZ (Wang, 2000).Dmax06N(D)D dD , the k-Z relationshipPresumed the droplet size distribution of precipitation follow the Gamma distribution(Clark, 1974):[ − (3.67 + ) D ]N ( D)= C Dµ Dµ1exp/01-481-
