Working Environment
For the third year running the prestigious “Great Place to Work” Institute which is recognized
in more than 28 countries and three continents, conducted a survey on human resources,
work environment and human resource management practices among the Bank’s staff. Each
year the Institute publishes a list of the 10 best firms to work for in the countries in which it
is involved. The bank ranked eighth and was the only Venezuelan company from the banking
system on that list.
Special mention is due to the bank for its constant effort to develop staff training programs
to improve and update their professional level and knowledge.
During the year 317,196 hours of training were imparted at a cost of approximately Bs. 8.6
billion. Traditional and e-learning methods are used and are subject to adequate controls and
supervision.
Relations with the Bank’s officers and employees have evolved within the traditional spirit of
harmony and cooperation and the Board wishes to acknowledge the efficiency and dedication
they have demonstrated in performing their functions
It is important to reiterate the cordial relations maintained between the National Federation
of Workers (Federación Nacional de Trabajadores) of Mercantil, C.A. Banco Universal and its
affiliated unions .
During the year a number of Alternate Directors attended board meetings, either standing in
for Directors in their absence, or as observers. Some executive functions were delegated to
members of the Executive Committee during the temporary absences of the President and the
Executive President.
