Each morn<strong>in</strong>g starts withthe Div<strong>in</strong>e Liturgy and students learn to s<strong>in</strong>g the responses both <strong>in</strong> English and Ukra<strong>in</strong>ian. TheRosary is prayed regularly. Every meal beg<strong>in</strong>s and ends with a prayer. Prayer beg<strong>in</strong>s and ends theschool day. Every class beg<strong>in</strong>s with seasonal Christian greet<strong>in</strong>gs. Every trip beg<strong>in</strong>s with a prayer.Prayer is part of everyth<strong>in</strong>g that is done at SVC.St. Vladimir's College also passes on the knowledge of traditional Ukra<strong>in</strong>ian choralmusic, the love of Ukra<strong>in</strong>ian dance, and the expression of Ukra<strong>in</strong>ian traditional <strong>in</strong>struments to allof its students. The students prepare dur<strong>in</strong>g the year, and <strong>in</strong> the spr<strong>in</strong>g embark on a "ConcertTour"throughout various parts of Canada and the United States perform<strong>in</strong>g the dance and music thatmake the school unique. Many of former students have made careers <strong>in</strong> Ukra<strong>in</strong>ian dance, andmusic. Over the years, St. Vladimir's College has produced a number of professional record<strong>in</strong>gsof its music.The students of St. Vladimir's College also have access to some of the f<strong>in</strong>est athleticfacilities available. Whether recreational, or on some of seasonal organized teams, students havethe opportunity to excel athletically. The School has the equipment for virtually every sport fromvolleyball, basketball, soccer, badm<strong>in</strong>ton, floor hockey, to golf (there is a n<strong>in</strong>e hole course abouta ten m<strong>in</strong>ute walk away), cross country ski<strong>in</strong>g and lacrosse.At the competitive level, the School supports teams <strong>in</strong> soccer, volleyball, basketball,cross country runn<strong>in</strong>g and badm<strong>in</strong>ton. Other sports and school <strong>in</strong>volvement at a competitive orrecreational level depend on student <strong>in</strong>itiative and <strong>in</strong>terest.A student council assists students <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g their leadership skills as well as allow<strong>in</strong>gthem <strong>in</strong>put <strong>in</strong>to school operationsTo assist <strong>in</strong> the upkeep of the School, students are expected to perform certa<strong>in</strong>ly dailychores. Each student, for example, takes a turn wash<strong>in</strong>g dishes; all students are responsible forkeep<strong>in</strong>g the facilities clean and orderly.On weekends, after morn<strong>in</strong>g liturgy, students have free time and on Saturday morn<strong>in</strong>gmay participate <strong>in</strong> choir, music or sports; <strong>in</strong> the afternoon, they may go downtown withpermission. Pool halls and bars are off limits. Sunday morn<strong>in</strong>gs are focused on church; theafternoons are free.<strong>In</strong> addition to regular student leaves outl<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> the calendar, a maximum of two weekendpasses may be granted to each student per school year. These may not conflict withscheduled school activities and prior approval must be obta<strong>in</strong>ed from parents.As might be expected <strong>in</strong> a school whose focus is Christian service, no posters, pictures orarticles shall be worn or posted is they conflict with school standards.5
