There is a large common room, lounge, laundry room andaccess to the art studios.Meals are planned by a registered dietician, prepared by full time dietary staff, and servedin the dining room in the main school building.Resident students are under the constant care and supervision of the Director ofResidence and her support staff who live in the residence. Every effort is made to create a 'homeaway from home' environment, so that students can live, learn, grow emotionally and physically,to develop their full potential as young women.Special rules and guidelines are created and intended to promote health, safety, personalgrowth, as well as foster a sense of responsibility, accountability and community. Dedication tothe pursuit of high ideals, respect for the individual self, the environment and honesty are part ofthe educational process at Balmoral Hall School.Resident students attend school from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Study hall is heldeach evening for two hours before a day on which classes are held.Each resident is expected to participate in the athletic programmes or otherextra-curricular activities each afternoon. Planned activities on the weekend are wide rangingand varied depending on the interests of the students.All new International students are met by a school representative at the Winnipeg airportupon arrival.A full orientation programme focuses on language evaluation, needs assessment andintroduction to the School and Winnipeg. A Homestay Family Programme is in place to facilitate exposure toCanadian culture. Profiles of students and families are exchanged to establish compatibility.Once compatibility has been established, students can visit on weekends/holidays, thus allowingthe Canadian family to become another integral part of the support network we have in place forthe resident student.Health and SafetyThe School has a Registered Nurse available Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and4:00 p.m. The Director of Residence, also a Registered Nurse, is responsible for the health careof residence students on a 24 hour, 7 day-a-week basis. Staff have ready access to qualifiedphysicians in the city as well as to Winnipeg's clinics and hospitals.The Residence building and School are enclosed by a wrought-iron fence.
