Athletics have always been a big part of Western. This cont<strong>in</strong>ues as the School competes<strong>in</strong> badm<strong>in</strong>ton, baseball, basketball, curl<strong>in</strong>g, hockey, soccer, softball, track and field, andvolleyball.S<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g groups <strong>in</strong>clude two choruses-- a large group open to all, with about 80%participation of the student body, and a smaller travel<strong>in</strong>g chorus of about 35-40; Sonsh<strong>in</strong>e is asmall a capella s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g group that consists of twelve high school students which forms <strong>in</strong>mid-September of every year. Sonsh<strong>in</strong>e s<strong>in</strong>gs at various functions around Dauph<strong>in</strong> and makespublic relations tours.Students may also take part <strong>in</strong> drama activities. Each spr<strong>in</strong>g, the School mounts a majormusical production with broad student body participation.Special events at the College <strong>in</strong>clude the Lectureship weekend <strong>in</strong> the fall, the W<strong>in</strong>terBanquet, Homecom<strong>in</strong>g, and <strong>in</strong> the spr<strong>in</strong>g, the Youth Rally.Dur<strong>in</strong>g the week, students may leave campus any time after 4:00 p.m., but they must havepermission of the Dorm Director. Students who wish to visit their friends <strong>in</strong> town may only do sowhen there is parental supervision.Whatever else students are allowed to do they are required to follow a code of behaviorbased on Biblical pr<strong>in</strong>ciples.Admission and CostsWestern Christian College welcomes students regardless of religion or f<strong>in</strong>ancial circumstancesto its programme. <strong>In</strong>deed, no student is refused admission unless it is determ<strong>in</strong>ed that the personis unable to respond positively to the School’s approach to Christian education.Applications must be accompanied by a transcript of past marks as well as by a list oftwo references. On the application form, candidates must also provide some personal <strong>in</strong>formationabout themselves and their <strong>in</strong>terests,There is no admission test; while not compulsory, an on-campus <strong>in</strong>terview isrecommended.There is a $30 application fee. <strong>In</strong> 1999/00, tuition fees at the College for secondarystudents are $3,300 per year. Room is an additional $1,350 and board is a further $2,500 per year(total $7,150).There is also an activity fee of $100 which covers yearbook, <strong>in</strong>surance, student counciland activity transportation.
