Romec’s appliance
of safety science
One of the UK’s leading facilities
management companies is using
the latest test technology as part
of a service to verify the safety of
electrical equipment used in the
workplace.
As part of its building maintenance
FM service, Romec provides specialist
in-service electrical safety testing
to help clients comply with their
health and safety responsibilities
and the Electricity At Work
Regulations in particular.
To provide this service, Romec’s test
engineers use an integrated portable
appliance testing system developed
by Seaward Electronic that links
advance test technology with specialist
appliance tester modems and
software-based records keeping systems.
The Romec team of service engineers
is equipped with the latest
Seaward Supernova testers to carry
out safety tests on all types of 110v
and 240v electrical equipment including IT, business
and office machines, power tools and appliances.
In total around 500,000 appliances are
now tested each year to check for electrical
faults and damage, which might otherwise go
Lone workers no longer
need to be an obvious
target of crime
Lone workers such as Security
Guards, Taxi & Bus Drivers and
Sales Reps, are amongst those
most at threat from both opportunist
and planned crime during
their working hours, however a
new innovation in security clothing
- known as the ‘Lock-Top’ is
set to change all of that.
undetected.
This comprehensive system enables the fast and
accurate testing of appliances and the direct
printing of test records on-site. The modem
allows the downloading of results from remote
The professions, well known to
have a lone worker that carries
either substantial amounts of
money or keys and security passes,
has made them an unfortunate target
of crime; however a company
that manufacturers a Police-styled
security garment for the consumer
market has today launched its
product into the corporate arena.
KDT Corporate Wear Limited has
unveiled a new undergarment,
made from the highly breathable
Dupont Coolmax material, called
the ‘Lock-Top’.
“The Lock-Top is unique in its
design and is the only undergarment
of its kind available in the
UK. It has two zip pockets located
around the ribs, making them completely
invisible to anyone else,”
said Tony Tuck, Managing Director
of KDT Corporate Wear Limited.
“We are well placed to understand
the problems of lone workers as we
manufacture clothing for Police
Forces around the UK. Utilising this
experience, we have adapted the
design of a Police vest and tailored
it to this market. Money, security
passes and other valuables can be
carried in the two pockets, making
the worker less of an obvious target.”
International Paper, the world’s
largest paper and forest products
company, today announced the
launch of four new colours in its
Adagio range of tinted papers for
office and graphic use.
Lemon yellow, coral pink, lime
green and grass green are the
four new colours enriching
the range of Adagio papers,
which already consists of
twenty-four colours,
classified in four categories:
pastel, bright,
intense and flash.
The Adagio range is
well-known in the
corporate environment
for its
wide ranging
office applications.
The
innovative
use of colours
enables structuring
of reports, differentiating
between recipients
and strengthening the
impact of a message. Adagio
ensures quality printing with lightstable
colours and good doublesided
opacity. Its packaging is
transparent to protect the paper
and to allow for immediate identification
of the colours. The reams
test locations to a central off-site
database.
The customer retains a full copy of
all test results and a central archive
of all test records is maintained in
line with Romec’s ISO9000 quality
assurance systems.
In this way the portable appliance
service provided by Romec forms an
important part of the company’s
‘one stop shop’ philosophy to providing
FM solutions.
Ian Cuss, general manager for Romec
in the North East of England, said:
“Portable appliance testing has
grown in importance and we have
responded by developing a service
that combines fast and effective
testing with full record keeping features.
“Traceability of results and unambiguous
test records are vital to
demonstrate compliance to the
statutory bodies. Technological innovations
of the type introduced by
Seaward have enabled us to respond to these
market demands and offer a highly efficient and
professional appliance testing service for the
benefit of our customers.”
