Detector Activated
CCTV Systems
CCTV Systems have come a long way over the
last decade particularly in terms of the technological
advances made by the various
equipment manufacturers. However, possibly
the greatest leap foreword in adding value
and raising standards has been the introduction
of BS8418, a code of practice for the
design, installation and monitoring of detector
activated CCTV systems.
BS8418 sets out specific guidelines regarding
the design and installation of the system, paying
attention to the detector and camera positioning
as well as lighting requirements. The
detectors should be of a quality and sophistication
to resist unwanted or ‘false’ alarms, whilst
maintaining optimum capture performance.
This allows for a credible and stable solution to
be offered that will engender the confidence
necessary for end users to adopt the service in
place of other more costly alternatives. Once a
detector is activated, images from the site can
be captured and transmitted to an RVRC
(Remote Video Response Centre) allowing for
the fastest possible reaction to an incident. The
addition of audio facilities onsite allows for
potential intruders to be deterred or warned off
before an incident develops, this has often
proven to be the case, and is now a mandatory
requirement under the ACPO security systems
policy 2004. Providing all of the requirements of
BS8418 and the ACPO policy are met, a URN
(unique reference number) will be issued by the
Police and can attract a priority response to
incidents from emergency services.
Abloy Security works
to combat crime
Abloy Security Ltd has launched
its latest range of locking solutions
that have been specially
designed to help retailers
improve the level of in-store
security, reduce theft, and perhaps
as importantly, achieve all
this without adversely affecting
the impact of product display or
presentation.
The British Retail Consortium estimates
that retail crime incidents
are costing the industry of around
£2,200 million each year. Securing
a shop floor can be difficult
because it acts as a primary interface
between shopper and product;
therefore, the challenge is to balance
the shop front’s appealing
atmosphere with effective security
Frontier Pitts successfully
crash test new Roadblocker
Frontier Pitts dedicated research and development
team have designed and produced
one of the strongest Roadblockers on the market.
The new product is based upon the Terra
Blocker design (crash tested in the 1970’s)
which has been performing at more than 3000
installation sites worldwide for 30 years.
Following months of in-house design and computer
simulations, the new ATTB-80 was successfully
tested by MIRA independent Crash
Laboratories in January 2005.
The test was conducted to prove the arresting
capability of a Frontier Pitts ATTB-80
Roadblocker when impacted with a 6810kg
(15,000lb) test vehicle at a speed of 50mph
(80km/hour).
Frontier Pitts was confident in selecting the
toughest test for the most difficult standard to
achieve. K12 testing denotes that the vehicle
measures.
The ABLOY® PROTEC and
EXEC mechanisms offer high
security locking solutions suitable
for use within the retail
environment. The ABLOY
EXEC cylinder mechanism is
ideal for applications where
locks of a similar type are
used, and is particularly suited
to cam and furniture locks
due to it key retaining feature.
However, if door cylinders
are to be used as part of
a complete suite of locks, then the
more flexible two-way system
ABLOY PROTEC should be considered.
This also benefits from a new
sealed disc controller and driver
plate, giving smooth entry and
operation.
Also ideal for retail use is the
ABLOY Eff Eff range, which provides
unobtrusive mechanical or
electro-mechanical locking units,
which can be used to secure high
value products, such as jewellery,
within glass display cabinets.
Strong and compact, this low-profile
range of can be controlled individually
or in multiples by a variety
of devices including keys, switches,
keypads, card or proximity readers.
Security door from
J Durrance secures
Ladbrokes business
J Durrance & Co, market leading
physical security solutions
provider, has been awarded the
contract to refurbish Ladbrokes
shops with their new design security
door system.
Developed in conjunction with
Ladbrokes’ team of security managers
through open forum discussions,
J Durrance has designed and
manufactured a 3-bolt multi-point
locking door, which has yet to be
beaten!
The unique security door developed
and manufactured by J
Durrance, includes some of the following
features:
● Steel encased locking points
● A metal sleeve encasing the
door and locking area protects
from a crowbar attack and prevents
the door from splitting
● Steel hinge protector to prevent
the frame from splitting
● Hinge security locking bar
engages into the frame, nullifying
a hinge attack
● An overlap security strip to prevent
access to the locking area
● A hidden steel angle to prevent
breaking the lock out
must be travelling at a minimum
of 80km/hour on impact. L3
means that the test vehicles’ penetration
must be less than
1metre.
The vehicle was brought to a complete
halt by the blocker with
zero penetration onto site or past
the impacted face of the unit. A
key feature of the design ensured
that all forward energy was
absorbed at the front of the
equipment on impact, unlike
other rising kerbs on the market
which have allowed the vehicle to
ride over the equipment thus penetrating
site.
No other company in the World
can offer a product which can surpass the standards
for Department of State Certification.
This is a major breakthrough in high security,
anti-terrorist barricades.
The ATTB-80s hydraulic mechanism continued to
raise and lower the blocker as normal following
impact. This impressive test result has proved
not only the stopping power of this equipment,
but also the reliability and fortitude of the
design.
Further tests are planned in order to test this
equipment to destruction, using a similar vehicle
of at least 7.5 tonnes travelling at a speed
of 135km/hour. The existing crash-rated
hydraulic bollards will also be tested to the DOS
standards.
The Frontier Pitts crash-rated ATTB-80 is now
available in widths of up to 8000mm and a lifted
height of 810mm. Reader Reply No.: 85110
● Angle steel brick protection
preventing removal of the
frame
As part of Ladbrokes refurbishment
programme, the J Durrance security
door will be installed throughout
the 2,200 shops across the UK over
the next 3 years.
A spokeman at Ladbrokes, commented,
“Through discussions and
a forum with J Durrance, they were
able to design a tailored solution to
Ladbrokes needs.”
