Does your company
comply with Part 3
of the DDA?
1st October 2004 was the date by
which all service providers and
owners of buildings with public
access should have made reasonable
adjustments to the physical
features of their premises and
improve access to their service to
disabled persons. The aim of this
legislation is to achieve equality
between the disabled and ablebodied;
it introduces a basic duty
not to treat disabled people less
favourably than others.
New Tork Advanced
Blue, the multi-
purpose hand towel
New Tork Advanced Blue is both
more versatile and more costeffective
than other blue rolls on
the market, claims manufacturer
SCA Tissue Europe.
Two-ply Tork Advanced Blue consists
of one-ply tissue and one-ply
TAD material, making it softer and
more absorbent than other blue
hand towel rolls.
“It makes sense for
food processors
and caterers to
have one blue
towel that can be
used both for
their hands and
for surface wiping,”
said SCA
Tissue Europe’s
product and
market manager
Peter Broom. “But
other blue rolls tend
to be made of crepe, which means
they are fairly abrasive on the
hands and are sufficiently
absorbent only for the lightest of
spills.
“By using a layer of soft Through
Air Dried material in the manufacture
of Tork Advanced Blue we
believe we have created the softest,
most effective blue roll on the
market - one that is effective both
on surfaces and on the hands.”
Most food wipers are housed in centrefeed
dispensers that allow the
user to withdraw excessive lengths
of paper. Tork Advanced Blue
Safetyshop’s extensive range of
high quality DDA products, are the
essential tools for organisations
such as schools, libraries, hospitals,
doctor’s surgeries and all other
buildings with public access, to
achieve compliance to the DDA.
Safetyshop now has an increased
range of best-selling, durable
Braille signs and labels to suit most
premises. After all, most will have
entrances, toilets, lifts, stairs and
fire exits which can be easily identified
with the signs, making them
suitable for both sighted and partially
sighted or blind people. The
signs are made from a tough, nonreflective
‘fire rated’ plastic with
smooth raised lettering, Grade I
Braille, pictograms and a strong
self-adhesive backing for easy fixing.
The signs may also be housed
in PVC silver anodised aluminium
effect frames for added prestige.
penser that cuts the roll to size
inside the unit and gives out only
one sheet at a time. This means
users have to make a conscious
effort to take out more.
“We estimate that food processors
and caterers can save up to 50 per
cent of their paper costs by switching
to Tork Advanced Blue due to
this portion control function,”
said Peter.
Another advantage is
that Tork Advanced
Blue’s semi-automatic
dispensing system
ensures that each towel
is touched only by the
user, eliminating the risk
of cross-contamination.
The fact that Tork
Advanced Blue is softer
than most other blue rolls
is an added hygiene benefit
because soft rolls are userfriendly
and therefore help to
encourage good hand hygiene.
Tork Advanced Blue is available in a
high capacity format which avoids
the need for frequent refilling and
keeps down operational costs. Each
150m roll provides 625 individual
sheets.
“With the introduction of new EU
food safety laws, food handlers
have to be even more meticulous
about hygiene standards,” said
Peter. “We are responding to this
need by providing them with a
highly absorbent blue roll in a
hygienic dispensing system.”
Company washrooms a
disgrace reveals ‘Loo Poll’
Company toilets in the UK leave a
lot to be desired according to a
new “loo poll.” It also reveals that
most people are unaware of their
legal right to decent workplace
washrooms and sanitary disposal
facilities and that most women are
too embarrassed to raise the matter
with their bosses.
Many companies are failing to provide
decent staff toilets and washrooms
according to the survey with
the majority of respondents
describing workplace facilities as
either “disgraceful” or “leaving
room for improvement.”
The poll, conducted by washroom
services management company
Sanity Group, asked respondents to
grade the standards of hygiene and
provision of workplace washrooms
as either outstanding; room for
improvement or disgraceful.
Sanity’s founder and managing
director, Geoff Young, said: “The
poll indicates that many UK
employers need to smarten up their
act when it comes to providing better
washroom facilities.
“It also highlights a high degree of
ignorance among women about
their statutory rights to have sanitary
disposal provided along with a
reluctance to discuss this with their,
mainly male, bosses due to embarrassment.
It’s time for them to
New Unger mop for
cleaning up large spills
West Midlands, UK, 27th October
- Unger UK, a leading manufacturer
of professional cleaning tools,
has announced the introduction
of its new 1 litre SpillMop.
As its name implies, the new Unger
SpillMop has absorbency of 1 litre
or more and is therefore ideal for
picking up dirt and cleaning big
quantities of liquids or fluids that
may be spilled in areas such as
restaurants, canteens, washrooms
and industrial areas.
With a large 47 x 21 cm cleaning
surface, the new SpillMop is produced
from 14mm pile length
microfibre. Colour coding of the
mop’s sewed seams helps prevent
cross contamination.
The new Unger SpillMop is machine
washable and is recommended for
overcome this ‘tampon taboo’ and
speak out for better hygiene services
at work.”
Sanity has previously warned that
more than 80 per cent of small
companies could face prosecution if
they fail to provide appropriate
washroom facilities for their
employees and risk flouting the
Workplace (Health, Safety and
Welfare) Regulations because too
often staff and directors are too
embarrassed to raise the issue.
Under the regulations companies
are required to have suitable means
for the disposal of sanitary dressings
in the case of water closets
used by women. RR No.: 85054
use with Unger’s MopHolder, Press
and Bucket System for best cleaning
results and productivity.
The new 1 litre SpillMops are part
of Unger’s SmartColor Cleaning
System that combines superior
technology with the productivity
and sanitation benefits of visual
coding. Cleaners can use red coded
tools in the restroom, green in the
kitchen and foodservice areas, yellow
in specialty areas and blue for
general and light office cleaning
while cleaning managers can customise
a colour code system to
answer the unique needs of their
facility. In this way, the colour coding
system reduces cross-contamination,
improves performance and
leads to cleaner facilities.
