Concreted mass <strong>of</strong> tiny <strong>faience</strong> <strong>beads</strong> KW 76.An estimated 68,000 tiny <strong>faience</strong> <strong>beads</strong> were found as a concreted mass (KW 76,fig. 2.2). Although <strong>the</strong> original color <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>beads</strong> in this concretion is no longerdiscernible, <strong>the</strong> <strong>beads</strong> exhibit less variation in size than do o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>beads</strong> in this category.They are 0.21-0.31 cm in diameter (average 0.27 cm) <strong>and</strong> 0.10-0.17 cm in length(average 0.13 cm). 6Similar <strong>beads</strong> <strong>from</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r sites have been labeled as disk, flat-ring or annular<strong>beads</strong>. 7They have been found at Bronze Age sites throughout <strong>the</strong> Levant in <strong>faience</strong> aswell as gold, ostrich eggshell <strong>and</strong> various stones. Tiny <strong>beads</strong> are abundant in Egypt.The 18 th -Dynasty king Tutankhamen was entombed wearing a skull-cap intricatelyembroidered with such <strong>beads</strong>, which were also used in bracelets, necklaces <strong>and</strong> earrings6 The sample dimensions <strong>of</strong> <strong>beads</strong> as well as calculations to determine <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> <strong>beads</strong> present inconcreted mass KW 76 are provided in app. C.7 Petrie et al. 1923, pl.
