It is also a skill whereplayers will have some aspect of techniqueacquired but which often needsremediation or continued development.Combined these driving perspectives meanthat how to best teach shooting as a skillshould be understood.Shooting as a skill requires coaches to beknowledgeable but competent in helpingevery player of all standards to shoot theball with an effective technique. Coachesof the younger age groups are criticallyimportant. Any coach who specialises inthe younger age groups should become amaster of teaching and coaching goodshooting technique and have the ability toprogress the development over a two orthree year period. The more the game grows and new clubsor teams are formed regularly in theNational leagues competitions the morethe demands will continue to be oncoaching. Unfortunately this growth vianew teams is often independent of anestablished club and consequently withoutsupport of experienced coachingknowledge who can assist the new entrylevel coach. The lack of coaching expertiseaccompanying the expansion of theseteams further complicates the coaching ofshooting; as more players enter thepathway; more will have poor techniqueand understanding. Coaches from variouslevels within a club maybe able to assist orhelp mentor the novice / inexperiencedcoach in teaching shooting correctly. However the existing club structure ornational league team structure oftennegates the opportunity for guest coachesor coaches active in the same club or fromanother club to help out with coaching.Poor Coaching and learning ultimatelydevelops into poor shooting technique.Players also have little understanding of thebasic principles that are necessary toimprove and develop shooting wheninevitably practicing by themselves.61
