The program implements the ladder concept. There are specific prerequisites required for entry into the program. Building on theseprerequisites, a student completing the first year is eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination-Practical Nurse (PN). A student continuingthrough the second year is eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination-Registered Nurse (RN.) The education and scope of practice of thenurse is determined by state law.The Nursing Program is offered in a 2-year or 3-year track as well as an accelerated 2nd degree track for students with a bachelor’s degree in any field. Acurrent LPN, licensed paramedic, or respiratory therapist may gain entry into the second year of the associate degree RN program through the AdvancedStanding track. Nurses work in hospitals, clinics, offices, nursing homes, and home health care settings, in addition to schools, research facilities, andcommunity agencies.Nursing is a selective admission program.
