Funding Your EducationFree Application forFederal Student Aid(FAFSA)Getting help with paying forcollege starts with completingthe online Free Application forFederal Student Aid, commonlyknown as the FAFSA.The federal student aid process includes enteringdata from a student’s federal tax returns (ora dependent’s parent’s tax return) and otherinformation through a secure federalWeb site: www.fafsa.gov.FAFSA applicants will also beasked for a school code. Providing this number onthe application permits the federalgovernment to release studentFAFSA information to LCC.Personal IdentificationNumber (PIN)A personal identification number (PIN) is a fourdigitnumber needed during the FAFSA applicationprocess. Anyone who has a valid Social SecurityNumber and is a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizenmay apply for a PIN. You do not have to have a PINprior to completing the FAFSA application. PINs areused as an electronic signature to sign the FAFSA.What’s Next?LCC’s Financial Aid Office then uses details fromthe completed FAFSA application to generatean award letter outlining student eligibility forgrants (including Federal Pell grants and FederalSupplemental Educational Opportunity Grants),Federal Direct Student Loans, and work-studyawards. The entire process can take four to eightweeks so apply early! Please note the FinancialAid Office may request additional informationbefore determining your awards.
