S U M M E R S E M E S T E R 2011 Alternative DeliveryAlternative DeliveryTaking an Alternative Delivery class saves students time spent in aclassroom setting or reduces drive time by selecting a class locationcloser to their home. This flexibility helps busy people balance work,family and school and still reach their career and academic goals. Tryone or all of the Alternative Delivery options to find out what works bestfor your type of lifestyle!Electronically-supported Education OptionsOnline (100%) *- If you are self-motivated, an independent learner, andhave the ability to work without face-to-face contact with an instructor orclassmates, taking a course over the Internet will most likely work for you.Students enrolling in a 100% Online course should have existingcomputer skills or the ability to acquire such skills. Online instructors willfollow a syllabus and set deadlines. It's up to the student to meet courserequirements.Online/Hybrid *- An Online/Hybrid course is one in which regularlyscheduled classroom time is replaced a portion of the time with onlinecourse work and activities. This is a good option for students new toonline learning or students who prefer a more structured learningenvironment but enjoy the flexibility that an online course provides as thistype of course limits the number of times a student needs to be oncampusfor class. Students spend part of their time face-to-face in thetraditional classroom, lab, or worksite with an instructor and the other partparticipating on the Internet using LCC's ANGEL course managementsystem* All students are encouraged to complete ANGEL Orientation trainingprior to beginning an Online or Online/Hybrid course. You can register for these courses (pending availability) up tothe day prior to the first class meeting. If you are already enrolled forSummer, you may be able to late add a variable date section that islonger than 8 weeks. (Refer to the Adding a Class table.).Weekend - People who work full time find weekend courses easier to fitinto their busy schedules. Course lengths vary from one to three days ormany extend the entire semester.Off-campus Learning Locations - An off-campus learning locationprovides LCC students the opportunity to select the class(es) closest totheir home or work. These sites, often located in area schools, communityeducation buildings, or in their own buildings have ample, free parkingand are within a 40-mile radius of Lansing. Some degree andcertificate programs can be completed entirely online! Regular trips to campus are notrequired.However, adaptability of the course has limits, as most courses are notself-paced. Students must participate in online discussion when requiredfor a course. Students must submit assignments when due. Work andtime commitments are at least the same as for traditional courses. Someexams are taken at the LCC campus or by an approved proctor. If youtake a test off-campus, additional proctoring fees may apply.Technical Requirements:A word processing program is required for all courses. Hardware andsoftware needs vary from course to course.
