FINANCIAL AIDFINANCIAL ASSISTANCEwww.hccfl.edu/ssem/financialaid.aspxFinancial aid is any scholarship, grant, loan, or employment ( or a combination thereofdesigned to help students meet their college expenses. The amount and types of financialaid given is based on state, federal and HCC guidelines. <strong>Student</strong>s must be degree seeking,meet enrollment requirements, submit official high school transcripts showing graduationdates or official GED test scores, and make satisfactory academic progress to be eligiblefor financial aid.Grants and scholarships are considered gifts and need not be rapid. Low interest loansare usually repaid over an extended period of time after the student leaves college.Employment refers to an hourly wage paid to the student for work performed.If I applied for financial aid but my financial aid is not awarded by thepayment due date, will my classes be dropped?<strong>Student</strong>s are required to complete a 2010-2011 FAFSA application and submit all of therequested financial aid forms by June 1, 2010 in order to have their financial aid awardsprocessed by the first day of fall 2010 classes.<strong>Student</strong>s applying for financial aid or submitting financial aid forms after June 1, 2010will be expected to pay for their classes or sign-up for Tuition Installment Plans (TIPS).<strong>Student</strong>s that are eligible for financial aid should contact their campus Financial Aid Officeto inquire about a 60 day deferment for the payment of tuition and fees. <strong>Student</strong>s thatare eligible for financial aid may receive a refund for the payment of tuition and fees oncefinancial aid is awarded.NEW PROCEDUREFall 2010 students registering for classes from August 24-30 must pay, sign up for the TIPSprogram, or receive a deferment the same day of registration. Otherwise, your courseswill be removed due to non-payment.Spring 2011 Due Date:The financial aid application due date for the spring 2011 is November 1, 2010. <strong>Student</strong>sregistering for classes from January 10-14, 2011, must pay, sign up for the TIPS program,or receive a deferment on the same day of registration. Otherwise, your courses will beremoved due to non-payment.161
