POSTER ABSTRACTS – FRIDAY, 22 MAY 2015This study examined exogenous substances’ (ES) use tendencies among professional footballplayers from first (L1) and second (L2) leagues throughout quantitative and qualitative analysis offorms recommended to list the ES taken by each player.During the season 2009-2010, the general rate of ES use was 0.797/player/match. In spite of closevariation during the season, there’s a highly significant disproportion of the general intake ratebetween L1 and L2. Vitamins and dietary supplements were the most administered (36.6 %)followed by medicines (antirheumatics, analgesics, myorelaxants...).Crossed comparisons showed that this classification is not significantly affected either as per leagueor as per competition phase. However, the intake rates of these classes are significantly higher in L1than in L2 apart from analgesics. We noticed that the practice of massive ES administrations to thewhole team is very widespread particularly for dietary supplements and vitamins. There’s an imminent need to rationalize medication in Tunisian professional football to avoidplayers any potential risk of doping (corticoids, morphinic analgesics) or health (anti rheumatics).Medical framers will have to privilege therapies with minor risk like to avoid the massive andrepetitive ES administrations; even dietary supplements must be tightened to the real sanitary andnutritional needs of every player who has to help by rejecting auto therapy. Keywords: football, exogenous substances, dietary supplements, medication, doping, health risk.284
