Section 4 E-procurement Enhancement - FunctionalOverviewSection 4E-procurement Enhancement - FunctionalNote: This enhancement was originally delivered in <strong>Release</strong> 6.0.1.OverviewE-procurement combines the use of browser-based technology with procurementbest practices to streamline the purchasing process and reduce costs. With abrowser-based e-procurement system as a front end, you can initiate a purchasedocument and achieve the benefit of budget checking, security checking, documentvalidation, and the creation of <strong>Banner</strong> requisitions or purchase orders.At that time, you will be able to use the e-procurement system of your choice to• Create purchase orders or requisitions by incorporating data received from athird-party e-procurement system into <strong>Banner</strong>.• Enable messages to be sent from <strong>Banner</strong> to an external e-procurement systemto inform the e-procurement system of postings and disapprovals of <strong>Banner</strong>purchase orders and requisitions, and dispatches of purchase orders.• Enable synchronization messages to be sent to a third-party e-procurementsystem when relevant data have been created, updated, or deleted in <strong>Banner</strong>.Note: Although this enhancement is intended to support any external e-procurement solution, the integration for this release has been testedextensively with SciQuest, <strong>SCT</strong>'s first partner for e-procurement.BackgroundThe integration of SciQuest HigherMarkets and <strong>SCT</strong> <strong>Banner</strong> <strong>Finance</strong> is the firstexample of message integration of <strong>Banner</strong> <strong>Finance</strong> with an external system.Application Program Interfaces (API)s delivered in the <strong>Finance</strong> 6.0 release made<strong>Banner</strong> <strong>Finance</strong> “message aware”. These APIs contained the business logic neededto create a <strong>Banner</strong> requisition or purchase order from external data. Theseenhancements provide the foundation for the message integration for e-procurement delivered in this release.Message IntegrationThe e-procurement enhancement will enable your institution to achieve messageintegration with SciQuest.
