Although o<strong>the</strong>r alternative layouts have beenproposed, to date, <strong>the</strong> three most common alternatives <strong>for</strong>keyboard layout are <strong>the</strong> QWERTY (Sholes), Dvorak, <strong>and</strong>ABC (Alphabetical) layouts.• 9.5.2.1 QWERTY layout. Researchindicates that keyboard arrangement is not necessarily <strong>the</strong>primary indicator <strong>of</strong> typing speed <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>re is no clear linkbetween keyboard layout <strong>and</strong> user cumulative traumadisorders, <strong>the</strong>re<strong>for</strong>e it is difficult to justify alternativekeyboard layouts. Additionally, some researchers havefound that visual search time to locate keys is faster <strong>for</strong>QWERTY than <strong>for</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r arrangements.9-14
