SENIOR SCHOOLCreative KudosDedicated Duo RecognisedTwo KWS Visual Arts students have been recognised for their talentand dedication, with their HSC Bodies of Work accepted in theprestigious ARTEXPRESS exhibition.Gretel Bailey-Preston and Cailin O’Connor (pictured L to R) hadan anxious wait after being asked to send their Bodies of Work tothe Board of Studies for potential selection. Early in December theyreceived the exciting news that both had been accepted into the highprofileHSC showcase.ARTEXPRESS showcases innovative and dynamic works of art in arange of mediums available to students every year and is viewed bya large section of the general public as well as by aspiring Visual Artsstudents.Gretel’s work ‘The things you might not hear’ explored issues of lossand longing in relationto humans, as well as thedestruction of the naturalenvironment.Cailin spent her HSCyear drawing a widerange of images dealingwith polocrosse for herwork, ‘Polocrosse…Themisunderstood game’.10
Textile Student Honoured in Exhibition1950s style combined with 21stCentury technology has helpedYear 12 Textile and Design studentBronte Currie (insert picture right)secure a place in next year’s TexstyleExhibition.Bronte’s major textile project hasbeen selected to tour NSW as partof the 2013 exhibition, followingmarking for the 2012 HSC.Bronte’s theme was the 1950sand she produced a ‘typical’1950s-style garment, whichshowed off her high-qualityconstruction techniques and subtlyexplored different iconographyof the era, such as Elvis, the cokebottle and Marilyn Monroe.She successfully investigateda couple of different ways ofrepresenting her theme throughtonal screenprinting, applique,reverse applique and free-motionembroidery.Bronte showed a natural abilitywith Computer Aided Design(CAD) programs such as Photoshopand these were transferred to theexceptional portfolio that sheproduced as part of her project.Industrial Designs Tick the BoxSome very impressive KWS Industrial Technology projects have beennominated for inclusion in the 2013 InTech exhibition.The major works of five KWS Year 12 students have been nominatedfor the exhibition, which will be held at the Sydney Timber andWorking with Wood Show at Homebush next July.Details of the nominated projects are:• Benjamin Nott – tabletop tandem-axle trailer for cartinggeneral and agricultural supplies on-road and off;• Samuel Chalker – grain trailer with auger, able to feed out avariety of different grains for stock consumption;• Rory Hart – hydraulic log-splitting trailer;• Peter Brooker – off-road catering trailer for the KWS Cadet Unit;• Harry Watson – enclosed box trailer for transporting and showingbirds.11
