SENIOR SCHOOLSenior Sport Snippets16Record-breaking Start to SeasonKWS rowers have had a great start tothe 2012/13 season, continuing toimpress despite the relative youth ofour club.Formed just eight years ago, the KWSRowing Club is producing rowerswho are performing at the top of thesport.The Loreto Normanhurst Regatta inNovember was a great example, withour team bringing home 11 firsts, 10seconds and three third places.The final event of the regatta wasthe school First Eight event in whichthe KWS Eight raced superbly to benarrowly forced into second place bya fast-finishing St Ignatius College,with St Joseph’s College and Scotsfollowing behind.The KWS rowers had earlier kickedoff the season at the Rowing NSWSpring Regatta where they competedagainst mainly adult club rowers.At the end of that event KWS rowershad won seven events, scored 10second places and three third places.Our team finished off the pre-Christmas leg of the season bycompeting in two Rowing NSWevents in Sydney.The 31-strong team brought homesix firsts, eight seconds and two thirdplaces from the Reindeer Regattaon December 8, mainly competingagainst club rowers.The highlight of the day was theexcellent silver medal won by theboys’ four in Men’s Under 21 CoxedFour, against competitors from bothclubs and top schools.The following day they competedin the NSW Sprint Championships,where the KWS rowers achievedtheir best overall results ever, withnine gold, five silver and four bronzemedals.Pictures: Top featured - Year 8 Girls Quad ScullEva Bloomfield, Amelia Smith, Emerson Miller,Zali Thomas and Ruby Brown; Right top -Men’s Under 21 Coxed Four; Bottom - GirlsYear 9 Coxed Quad Scull.
