SENIOR SCHOOLLeading ExamplesBullying –it’s not OKBullies have been put on notice bythe entire <strong>KWS</strong> Senior <strong>School</strong> studentbody.The students and staff have embracedthe creative anti-bullying campaign,the String Movement, and areworking with other local schools tospread the message.Student Sammy Charry introducedthe program to <strong>KWS</strong> after learning ofit at a church group she attends.The String Movement message issimple: ‘Bullying – it is not OK.’The idea is that students where abraided cord wristband as a showof solidarity that bullying stops withthem.By tying a piece of string aroundtheir wrist students are: creatingawareness of the issue of bullying;making a peaceful stand againstbullying; making themselves arefuge for those who are beingbullied; and showing they’re partof the movement. <strong>KWS</strong> head tutorBridie Brideoake said it was hopedthe String Movement would givestudents the courage to step in if theysee bullying occurring.Picture above: bottom left - Sammy Charryand students from a number of Orangeschools12Volunteers Supportour SoldiersThe sacrifices being made by oursoldiers in Afghanistan were on theminds of Year 11 students when theyvolunteered to sell Legacy badges onBadge Day this year.Twenty students took to the streets forLegacy, donating their time and raising$3100.Members of the public were very happyto see our students out and aboutsupporting Legacy and were keen tocontribute. The sad loss of five Australiansoldiers in Afghanistan, just days beforeLegacy Week began, was on manypeople’s minds.Community service is an importantcomponent of a <strong>KWS</strong> education andthe entire <strong>School</strong> community takespride in seeing our students lead theway by supporting such a worthycause as Legacy.
