SENIOR SCHOOLExpanding ExperiencesField Trip a Valuable AdventureYear 11 students ‘immersed’themselves in their studies whenthey visited the Macquarie Marshesas part of their work studying‘Ecosystems at Risk’.The 2 Unit Geography excursionaimed to identify how competinghuman activities impact on themarshes ecosystem and examinehow responsible management isessential to balance the interest of allstakeholders.Students talked to irrigators and cottongrowers who live in the catchmentupstream of the marshes, as well asNational Parks and Wildlife officerswho manage the wetland reserves ofthe Macquarie Marshes.It was the <strong>KWS</strong> GeographyDepartment’s 12th trip to themarshes, and an amazing experiencefor the students who were able topaddle their canoes throughout thenature reserve.Students and staff also enjoyedthe support and hospitality of theHogendyk and Plunkett families ofWarren.The excursion once againdemonstrated the value of thefieldwork experience and providedthis year’s group with a memorableexperience.14
