Robert MoysesGUEST (VIC)In 2006,“whilst visitinga quiltingexhibition,I becamefascinated bythe complexity, colour and design ofthese works in fabric.Later I imagined theseas being produced inpaper, so combiningskills learned in theprinting and publishingindustry, I started workon a self portrait as myfirst trial and completedeffort. This is achievedby layering cutout piecesof coloured paper intorecognisable highlystylised and texturedimages. The images haveevolved into quite detailedworks representingvarious subjects capturedthrough photography. This shot was takenwhilst walking around theWilliamstown foreshore.I was fascinated bythe strong verticals ofthe high-rise apartmentbuilding as a backdrop tothe storage of the smallboats in the foreground, along with yacht masksand floodlights. All theseelements combined arebroken by the selectiveuse of horizontal elementsto break the elongation ofthe work.Small Boats in Storage -- WilliamstownScissor cut coloured archival paper, 65 x 52.5cm, 2009$850Robert has always had a strong interest in all things relating to artfrom an early age, and was a prolific drawer.
