My subjects areuntamed landscapes,which portray theunpredictable and familiarpatterns in nature andthe intrinsic manner inwhich order and chaoscoexist and ultimately;create everything we see.I am also exploring thelink between the laws ofphysics in nature and theinevitable consequenceof the human imprint.My aim is to create asense of awe, terror andreflection concerning theimmanent need to protectour natural environment.Abandoned RomanceOil on linen, 152 x 107cm, 2011$3200Emma has been working as a visual artist and professional children’s book illustrator for the past 12 years.Stemming from her illustrative background, the focus of her fine art practice prior to 2011 has been on creatingdelicate micro-scenes using water colours, ink and pencil. While she continues to create works that are intricateand detailed, she has increased the size of the surface she uses and moved into painting with oils on linen. Thisupsizing of her micro scenes to monumental scale has provided a vehicle for her desire to capture and acutelyaccentuate the omnipresence of nature.URBAN CREATURES 43
