Anthony TannerGUEST (VIC)Quasi-oblivionDigital Print (Edition of 10), 35.5 x 46cm, 2010$450Recently my artistic“practice has primarilydealt with the multifacetedconundrums associated withstreet violence, notablythe quasi-oblivion or socialdisconnectedness which isoften portrayed, where thelack of involvement or intervention nowsubstantiates an acceptable response.My imagery attempts to perspicuouslydramatize the axiomatic passivityfound in contemporary society, therebyimploring the viewer to assess their ownsocial involvement to similar scenarios,in hope of influencing a more sociallyconnected and socially conscious milieu.In 2008, Anthony completed a Diploma inSustainability at the National Centre forSustainability, Swinburne University anda Diploma of <strong>Arts</strong> (Visual <strong>Arts</strong>) at VictoriaUniversity, graduating the recipient of theFiona Myer Award. Since then he has beeninvolved in numerous exhibitions, holding hisfirst solo show at Brunswick Street Galleryin 2009. His work is included in the VictoriaUniversity Collection and various privatecollections throughout Australia. He is alsoa Student Ambassador for The Ian PotterMuseum of Art, where he helped curate TheLawn Party, which was an event aimed atpromoting student attendance to the museum.Anthony is currently studying at the VictorianCollege of the <strong>Arts</strong> and is due to complete hisundergraduate degree later this year.URBAN CREATURES 45
