College of Engineering, BangaloreIndustry Awareness ProgrammesThe basic aim of the Industry Awareness Programme is topropagate the concept of standardization and qualitysystems among small scale industries. Such programmesorganized by BIS consist of lectures, discussions and videofilm shows, where the participants are exposed to theconcept of standardization, quality systems, productcertification and other BIS activities. These programmesare organized by BIS in association with local Industryassociations and Small Industries Service Institutes.During the year, two such programmes were organized atHyderabad and Port Blair.State Level Committees (SLCs)In order to have apermanent mechanismat the state level toensure effectiveimplementation ofstandards and topropagate the messageof standardization andquality systems all overthe country, State LevelCommittees forStandardization andQuality Systems(SLCs) have been set upin almost all States/Union Territories. Duringthe year, meetings ofSLCs of Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi wereheld. During these meetings, emphasis was laid on thepurchase of BIS certified material by the State Governments,training of personnel, enforcement of quality control orders,consumer education and granting more incentives by StateGovernments to units holding products as well as qualitysystem certification licences.World Standards DayThe World Standards Day was celebrated by BIS at itsheadquarter at New Delhi and also at Regional, BranchOffices and Inspection Offices. The main function andtechnical seminar on the theme ‘Global Standards for GlobalInformation Society’ was organized at New Delhi on 14okf"kZd fjiksVZ 2003-2004 7
