Thelaboratories have achieved following:1. Quality Assuarance testing of 5.3 percent samples wascarried out as against 5 percent testing requirement.2. Internal audits were carried out by involving independentauditors.3. <strong>BIS</strong> Laboratories have carried out Proficiency testingprogramme by demonstrating the capability. <strong>BIS</strong>laboratories participated in the proficiency programmeon Steel, Rubber products, Pesticides, Cables &Conductors, Electric Iron, Cement, GLS Lamps andthe Z-score found satisfactory.4. All complaints received were settled to the satisfactionof the clients.Training Programme<strong>BIS</strong> laboratories are organizing training programmes onproduct testing for the licensees/applicants so as to haveunification in test methods. Eleven such programmes fortesting personnel of licensees were organized in various<strong>BIS</strong> laboratories in the field of Packaged drinking water,Cables and conductors, UPVC pipes, Biscuits, FireExtinguishers, Centrifugal pumps and Packaging containeretc.Modernization and Upgradation of Test FacilitiesDuring the year <strong>2003</strong>-04 Bureau has incurred an expenditureof Rs.70 lakhs, which include creation/upgradation offacilities in the following areas :• Pesticide residues in packaged drinking water asper revised standards at Central Laboratory,Sahibabad and Western Regional OfficeLaboratory, Mumbai .• Automated Modular System of Life Test of GLSLamps.• Upgradation of infrastructure regarding stabilizedpower supply at Central Laboratory & SouthernRegional Office Laboratory, Chennai.• Creation of testing facilities for Valve of Cycle Tube,Torque wrench, MCB and Lamp Holders.<strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2003</strong>-<strong>2004</strong> 18
