This year, 22 review meetingswith licensees were organized covering the areas ofHallmarked gold jewellery, Sewing machines, Irrigationequipment, Dairy products, Plastic pipe and relatedproducts, Rubber hoses, Licensees meet of LPG cylinder,Regulators and valves, Miniature circuit breaker’s, Wiringaccessories, Sprinkler irrigation system, Rehabilitationequipment, Overhead transmission conductors, Domesticpressure cookers, Packaged drinking water/ Naturalmineral water, Cement, Deepwell handpump andcomponents, Electromedical, hospital and rehabilitationequipment and surgical instruments, Cables and solar flatplate collector.Certification of Imported ProductsBIS is operating two schemes for certification of importedgoods, one for foreign manufacturers and the other for Indianimporters. The details of these schemes are available onBIS website www.bis.org.in. During the year 15 licenceshave been granted in countries like Sri Lanka, Malaysia,China, Bhutan, Nepal, Thailand, Switzerland and Francetaking the number of total licences in operation under ForeignManufacturers Scheme to 35.Hallmarking of Gold JewelleryThe Scheme for Hallmarking of Gold jewellery, which wassuccessfully launched by BIS in April 2000, continued tomake considerable progress. As on 31 March 2004 therewere 730 jewellers licenced to get their jewellery hallmarkedfrom 15 Assaying and Hallmarking Centres recognized byBIS. About 31 lakh gold jewellery articles were hallmarkedduring the year. Jewellery meets were also organized toeducate jewellers about the Hallmarking Scheme.Quality Control OrdersTwo Quality Control Orders, namely, the Electrical Wires,Cables, Appliances, Protection Devices and Accessories(Quality Control) Order, 2003 and the Cement (QualityControl) Order, 2003 were issued by the Department ofIndustrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce andAnnual Report 2003-2004 14
